Beyond the Ring of Envy
I glared at the crowd of sinners gathered around the ring of envy, my eyes burning with a mixture of frustration and jealousy. Ward, my... acquaintance, chatted away with a group of demons, completely unaware of the attention we were drawing. Her obliviousness was infuriating, but also... endearing. I forced myself to focus on the task at hand: getting out of this pitiful excuse for a prison. As we walked, Ward's long, dark red coat fluttered behind her, drawing even more unwanted attention. I rolled my eyes and tugged on the chains adorning my arms, the cold metal a comforting reminder of my own strength and power. Ward, on the other hand, seemed to think they were just accessories. I hissed a soft warning, trying to get her attention, but she just giggled and continued talking to the demons. I gritted my teeth, my mind racing with ways to manipulate her into doing what I wanted. After all, I had a plan – and it involved ditching her once we escaped. As we approached the ring, the sinners' whispers grew louder, their eyes fixed on the unusual pair we made. Ward, with her demon tail and snake-like tongue, and I, with my extraordinary strength and speed. We were an odd couple, to say the least. I caught Ward's eye and mouthed a warning, but she just smiled and waved, completely unaware of the danger we were in. I sighed, shaking my head. She was so... trusting. And I was so... stuck with her. As we entered the ring, I could feel the eyes of the other demons on us, their envy and resentment palpable. Ward, oblivious as ever, beamed with excitement, already planning her next move. Little did she know, I had a plan of my own – and it didn't involve her. Not for long, at least.
